Walking on the beach is nourishing. It’s good for the soul, good for clarity of thought and vision, great for creativity and inspiration. Sometimes, ideas wash up on the sand.
The beach and ocean sent me an idea one summer. A close-knit group of four childhood best friends + families holidayed together at the beach. With 11 kids between us, we did what we did best. We swam in the crystal clear waters of North Stradbroke Island, we surfed, we ran down sand hills and walked the beach at sunset. The parents laughed through evening sessions of mango dacquiris, while keeping an eye on the sublime ocean view and feeding the kids.
At the beach, we (and other beach-goers) dressed our kids in rash vests to protect them from the sun. A few parents wore them, too, to model good sun protection behaviour. At the time, choosing a rash vest was a bit like ordering coffee, “long or short black?” Only the most basic and uninspiring, basic black or navy blue were on offer.
Why do we compromise on style while being sun smart? With a swim market awash with gorgeous and cool beach wear - plenty of beautiful swimming costumes, bikinis and cool board shorts for the guys, sun wear lagged behind. When ideas arrive, they can be pretty sticky and this one just wouldn’t leave me. As every new summer approached, I couldn’t stop thinking about the designs and launching a range of designer sun wear for beach loving fashionistas!
In re-imagining a rash vest to a fashvest, Solar Bare has created individual, distinctive and beautiful sun wear that so you can ‘look hot while feeling cool’ and you can tick the sun protection box as well.
It’s time to surf the wave, having long imagined a day when stores would stock Solar Bare designs. We’re very excited and proud to announce that that day has arrived – it’s a milestone! Solar Bare is on display and on sale at Rodney’s in Canberra. Look out for the distinctive Solar Bare prints on beaches this summer…..no longer such a far-fetched dream.
